Cyriel Dessers was the match winner for Genk to pip Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in a pre-season friendly just as his former club backed the striker to continue to score goals for his new club.
Dessers netted his second goal in pre-season when he hit target from the penalty spot in the 19th minute.
It proved to be the only goal in the match against AZ Alkmaar.
His former coach at Lokeren, Peter Maes, has said he expects the Super Eagles call-up to continue his rich vein of form in front of goal.
“Cyriel will do well, he plays with his gut feelings, Romelu Lukaku is like that,” Maes told Het Laaste Niuews.
However, the coach was also quick to point out that the striker also comes with his own opinion.
“Cyriel takes a stand and argues his point, ” he said.
“Watch out! But I think that’s a good virtue.”
