Coach Manu Garba has said it will be an improved Golden Eaglets when they take on Burkina Faso Saturday afternoon to determine who wins Group B of the WAFU B U17 AFCON qualifiers in Cote d’Ivoire.
Nigeria thrashed Benin 4-1 Wednesday to go top of the group standings after Burkina Faso pipped Benin 1-0 in the opening game of this three-team group.
Both Nigeria and Burkina Faso have thus advanced to the semifinals of the qualifying tournament with the elimination of Benin.
“We will see a better Nigerian team as the tournament progresses,” noted coach Manu Garba.
“This team were only assembled about a month ago and this was only their first international match.
“They gave a good account of themselves even though there were some lapses which we have to correct before the match against Burkina Faso.”
Manu Garba admitted that the match against Benin was difficult being the opening game for his team and also the fact that the opponents were determined to stay on in the competition having lost their first game to Burkina Faso.
“Benin thought they could get a good result against Nigeria after they lost to Burkina Faso in their first game, but we also knew that if we won, we would have a foot into the semifinals,” the coach said.
