French Ligue 1 club Montpellier are selling Jerome Akor to La Liga club Sevilla so as to ease their financial troubles.
French sports newspaper L’Equipe said the striker’s sale was necessary to resolve some of the financial difficulties Montpellier were going through after Ligue 1 clubs lost substantial revenues from TV rights.
Akor, 25 next week, is now in Spain to complete his transfer to Sevilla after he was granted permission by his French club.
He is set to sign a contract with Sevilla until June 2028.
His replacement at Montpellier is likely to be former scorer Andy Delort, 33, who currently plays in Algeria.
