Leon Balogun has said he is excited to return to “a new old role” at right back for Scottish league leaders Rangers following injury to captain James Tavernier in a UEFA Europa League Round of 32 tie at Antwerp in Belgium.
Central defender Balogun replaced injured Tavernier in the 28th minute and he is now likely to play again in that role on Sunday against Dundee United at Ibrox.
“I can adapt to the position,” he said of his new role.
“I have to get used to it, but Tavernier is a beast, a terrific fullback, running down the line 180 minutes.
“I hope to put my own style into. It is not easy, but I will try not to come short in attack.”
He recalled he has played at right back in a cup tie for Brighton against Sheffield Wednesday vs Brighton as well as against Bayern Munich in the German Bundesliga.
Balogun, 32, will now fancy Rangers to extend their winning streak tomorrow at home.
“We will go for another win at the weekend, it will take us a step closer to our goal,” he said.
Rangers top the standings on 79 points from 29 matches, 15 points clear of champions and rivals Celtic.
