Former Chelsea star Mikel Obi has been sacked by Kuwait SC.
In a terse statement on their Twitter handle, the Kuwaiti club announced: “Termination of the contract of the Nigerian John Obi Mikel”.
No reasons were given for this termination, but Kuwait SC have undergone several changes recently as they aim to reclaim the country’s league championship.
Reports said the league in the oil-rich kingdom has yet to kick off.
Former Super Eagles captain Mikel signed a lucrative contract reportedly worth two Million Dollars a year.
It was supposed to be a year’s deal with an option for an additional year.
He was even named team captain.
