The Everton midfielder had broken free from his defence only for him to be crudely brought down.
Iwobi, who has played a major role this season for troubled Everton in a more central position, was in serious pain, in tears and covered his face with his shirt as he was stretchered off the pitch to bring an end to his participation.
The extent of the injury would only be ascertained after an x-ray and MRI scan.
Everton fight to stay up in the Premier League has been weakened should he be sidelined for long.
