Victor Ikpeba has dared his former international teammates Nwankwo Kanu and ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha over their comments on the appointment of Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle.
Both Kanu and Okocha have said instability in the coaching situation of the Super Eagles will hurt the team.
However, Ikpeba said he is surprised by the new interest the former stars have taken when they did not make any comments when their fellow Super Eagles teammate Finidi George had issues in the same team.
“When Finidi had hi issues in the Super Eagles, how many of the ex-internationals came out to support him?,” he asked.
“So, why are they now making comments?”
“We need to be honest in our criticisms even though everyone is entitled to his own opinion.
“In everything, Nigeria must come first.”
He continued: “(Augustine) Eguavoen did a remarkable job to qualify us to the AFCON, but now a decision has been made and we have to support the new man.”
The former African Footballer of the Year said the Super Eagles next two 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe will be crucial in the country’s quest to play at the global tournament.
“We will back in contention to qualify for the World Cup when we win our next two games (vs Rwanda, Zimbabwe),” he said.
How do you expect them to make comments on Finidi when you and your team, in the face of obvious incompetence, backed him to continue as super eagles coach after those disgraceful failures at the friendlies.
It is a shame that you, Victor Ikpeba, is part of the technical committee that is misguiding the NFF. You are loosing you salt man!
