Major League Soccer (MLS) has named Ike Opara the 2019 MLS Defender of the Year for the second time in three years.
The Nigerian-American has thus entered the history books as the fourth player in the MLS to win Defender of the Year multiple times.
The 30-year-old defender was rock-solid in Minnesota United’s defence to help them reach the MLS playoffs for the first time in their history.
Opara was massively voted for to scoop this award, which was decided by votes from MLS club technical staff, media and current MLS players as he got 32.64% of the total votes cast.
