The return of Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho to the Super Eagles is a proof that the national team do not shut the door on players, according to the team’s chief scout Tunde Adelakun.
Iheanacho was sensationally dropped for the 2019 AFCON in Egypt due to lack of game time at Leicester, but he has since been recalled on the back of his goals and performances for his Premier League club.
“Iheanacho is a talented player with an eye for goal, his goals and form not a surprise to us. He’s a pride for everybody and a good lesson not to give up,” Adelakun told TVC.
“I remember speaking to Kelechi before he was decamped from 2019 AFCON, ‘you know what – you will come back stronger as long as you believe in yourself and keep working hard’.
“He worked hard and all credit to him.
“It’s a lesson for some players in the Super Eagles who are not fulfilling their full potentials and we’re pointing in the direction of Kelechi, saying they can do same.”
Adelakun will go on to give hope to ‘Simy’ Nwankwo, who has been overlooked by the Eagles even after his rush of goals in the Italian Serie A.
“Simy is doing well, a good player and a very good person as well. His chance will come,” he offered.
“The door has never been shut on anybody to make an entry into the national team.”
