Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho has told SCORENigeria he is not out of form while also expressing confidence he will make the final cut for the 2019 AFCON in Egypt.
Iheanacho has struggled for regular first-team action in the Premier League this past season.
“I don’t believe I am off form, I do train regularly and still make the 18-man squad of my team week in, week out. It is not my decision to sit on the bench but I have to respect the coach’s decision,” he told SCORENigeria on sidelines of the wedding of Leicester City and Super Eagles teammate Wilfred Ndidi.
The former Nigeria U17 and U20 star has been named on the provisional squad for the AFCON amid criticisms, but Iheanacho maintained he is not under pressure to make the party to Egypt.
“I dont need to impress anyone in the Super Eagles camp for the AFCON. I will play my normal football and hopefully I can get selected for the tournament,” he said.
“I am always ready to play for my country, I have done that in the past and now I am ready to do that again at the AFCON, if selected.”
The Eagles training camp for the AFCON will open on June 2 in Asaba.
