Odion Ighalo’s Saudi Arabian club Al Shabab have said the striker will not feature at the AFCON and there will be no agreement with the Nigerian football federation in this regard.
Official of Al Shabab, Majid Al-Marzouki, said Ighalo’s invitation for the tournament was received late and the club coach has said he will prefer the player is not released to the Super Eagles.
“The coach told us that the player will stay with us and will not join the Nigerian team,” Al-Marzouki said.
“There are no negotiations between us and the Nigerian federation and the player is committed to the decision.
“The situation is settled.”
Ighalo, 33, who was top scorer at the 2019 AFCON with five goals, is the leading scorer in the Saudi Arabian top league with 11 goals and his club are second on the table.
