Odion Ighalo has revealed he will dedicate his goals for new club Manchester United to his older sister Mary, who died suddenly last year.
Ighalo has joined United, who he is adored as a child growing up in Lagos, on a season-long loan deal from Chinese club Shanghai Shensua.
Mary, 43, died at home in Canada and like Ighalo, was a big fan of Manchester United.
“Every goal I score from now until I finish my career will be dedicated to God and to her,” Ighalo told the British tabloid The Sun.
“I have written her name on my special white T-shirt and put her name on my boots. I want to show the world she is always with me.
“It means she can feel me playing at Old Trafford, feel that dream we all prayed for, even though she is not here to see it.
“But she will be on my feet, assisting me on the pitch.”
Ighalo, 30, will be on the matchday squad for the visit to Chelsea Monday.
