It is still scoreless after the first 45 minutes before the Super Eagles and Zimbabwe in this must-win 2026 World Cup qualifier in Uyo today.
As expected, the hosts team Nigeria have created the better chances, but the Warriors of Zimbabwe have been solid in defence and goalkeeper Washington Arubi has also been outstanding for the bottom team in Group C.
The hard working Moses Simon tested the Zimbabwe goalkeeper as early as the third minute, before Victor Osimhen’s effort was put away by Arubi for a corner after eight minutes.
A minute later, Osimhen’s goal-bound header was pushed to safety by the goalkeeper.
Both Ademola Lookman and Moses Simon had chances to get on the scoresheet as Zimbabwe responded with Knowledge Musona hitting the sidenetting and Kharma Billiet blocked by onrushing goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.
There will be everything to play for in the second half as Nigeria need to win to get their World Cup qualifying campaign firmly back on track after a poor start.
Super Eagles Starting XI vs Zimbabwe:
Nwabali – Ola Aina, Osayi-Samuel, Ekong (Captain), Bassey – Ndidi, Iwobi, Chukwueze, Moses Simon – Ademola Lookman, Osimhen
