Golden Eaglets captain Chukwuemeka Egbu is in danger of losing his place in the starting XI and his captaincy at the U17 AFCON in Morocco, SCORENigeria has learnt.
“He could be a non-playing captain in Morocco,” an official disclosed.
New addition to the Eaglets squad, Dennis Anthony, is now the preferred defensive midfielder for the Eaglets under coach Fatai Amoo after Egbu was ever-present at the WAFU B qualifiers in Togo earlier this year.
Egbu, who has also featured for the national U15s, has proved to be a great ball winner, but has struggled to be more involved in the play.
Should he not make the first team in Morocco, Yak Sports Academy of Benin defender Emmanuel Chukwu will be the one to lead the Golden Eaglets at the U17 AFCON
The highly-rated Chukwu is one of the team’s assistant captains, but he missed out on the qualifiers when he was injured after he collided with a goalkeeper in training prior to departure to Togo.
However, he has since fully recovered to become the main stay of the team in defence.
He is a ball-playing central defender, whose confidence has helped out for a more solid back four.
