Several officials have told SCORENigeria that there is no change in the age grade level of players they will list for the forthcoming U17 AFCON in Morocco.
We first reported that players who fall on grade 5 will now be considered for the U17 AFCON after they were not for the WAFU B qualifiers in Togo earlier this year.
However, officials have denied this, maintaining that only players who fall within grade 4 will make the trip to Morocco.
“There will no change, only players on grade 4 and below will make the final squad,” a top official told SCORENigeria today.
“There is no need to take any unnecessary risk in Morocco.”
A team official further informed SCORENigeria: “It’s not true that players on grade 5 will be named for the AFCON.
“We are sticking to the rule that served us well in Togo (during the WAFU B qualifiers), that is players on grade 4 and below.”
Last week, 40 players underwent the mandatory MRI age test in Abuja.
The Eaglets will begin their U17 AFCON campaign on March 14 against Tanzania.
They will also face Congo and Algeria in the first round of the tournament.
