Ahead of the U17 AFCON in Algeria, Golden Eaglets coach Nduka Ugbade has admitted his team have their own fears, but at the same time he believes these fears won’t stop their ambitions.
Today, the Eaglets were drawn in Group B in Constantine alongside Morocco, Zambia and South Africa.
Ugbade described the group as “quite interesting”, but the Eaglets hope to go all the way to championship game on May 19 in Algiers.
“If you’re going into a competition like this and you don’t have fears, then you’re not prepared,” he said.
“We have our fears, but that won’t cripple us, but that will create unbelievable performance when we have the opportunity to face any of the teams in the competition.”
“We will not be participating, we will be competing,” he added.
“We’re a strong nation who have won this trophy on several occasions.”
Ugbade said his team remain favourites to top the U17 AFCON even though Morocco will be lifted by the exploits of their senior team at the recent 2022 World Cup in Qatar, while South Africa have “exploded into a beautiful football nation”.
