Taiwo Awoniyi has saluted the fighting spirit of Mainz 05 after they fought back from 2-0 to draw 2-2 at Cologne as action returned in the German Bundesliga after it was discontinued by the Covid-19 Pandemic.
Awoniyi sparked his club’s comeback when he came off the bench to pull a goal back on the hour with a smart finish from deep inside the box, before Mainz 05 drew level 2-2 in the 72nd minute.
The striker said it was great to score his first goal for Mainz to help them earn a vital point on the road.
“I’m really happy about scoring my first goal for Mainz,” the Liverpool loanee said.
“We came back very well as a team and fought our way back into the match.”
Awoniyi further credited divine help for a great day in the office.
“God hath spoken once;twice have I hears this; that power belongeth unto God,” he said quoting Psalm 62.11
“Forever you are and will always be the greatest.”
His club are now four points clear of the danger zone.
