Little known Nigerian striker Gift Orban today got off to an explosive start in Belgium after he scored a brace and caused a penalty on his debut for KAA Gent.
Fifth-placed Gent drew 3-3 at Westerlo with Orban hitting target in the 30th and 66th minutes.
Orban was signed last month from Norwegian club Stabaek, who he helped to win promotion back to the top flight.
Gent coach Hein Vanhaezebrouck was full of praise for his new signing.
“Gift Orban is a player who scores very easily,” he remarked.
“But you can use him very well in the football that I want to bring. He feels the spaces very well. He can also play under pressure. That is also the reason why I recommend him.
“He came from second division and was still somewhat unknown. It is now up to Gift to confirm and to show that in the next matches.”
Ahmed Abdullahi, who is expected to join up with the Flying Eagles for the U20 AFCON, was an unused sub for Gent.
