Genk have crashed out of the UEFA Champions League and today they fell 1-0 at home to Eupen with former coach Johan Boskamp urging the Belgian club to do everything to get back Paul Onuachu.
Onuachu left for English club Southampton in January after setting an all-time goals’ record at Genk.
According to Boskamp, this elimination should be a starting shot in bringing back Onuachu.
“If I were one of them, I would do everything I can to get Onuachu back,” Boskamp told Het Belang van Limburg
“His departure already cost them the title last season and now also the Champions League. In England he hasn’t hit it anyway. Then put that boy out of his misery and just get him back.
“He doesn’t need any adaptation period and they know perfectly how to use him. Their game was completely tailored to him.”
Boskamp said he shares in the disappointment of the Genk fans.
This week, the Belgian club were eliminated from the Champions League by Swiss side Servette after a penalty shootout.
“After that game I spent another 15 minutes starring at my TV screen. I just couldn’t believe how they missed out,” said Boskamp.
“I still don’t get it. And that against a mediocre team, because Servette are not even one of the best teams in Switzerland.”
