Akwa United young midfielder Auwal Ibrahim aka ‘Germany’ will hope to make the most of his opportunity with the Flying Eagles at the 2025 U20 AFCON in Egypt after a brief stint with the Golden Eaglets.
The 19-year-old ‘Germany’ has now been converted by coach Aliyu Zubairu from an attacking midfielder to a mobile, hard running defensive midfielder and he showed he has come of age with a five-star display alongside Caleb Ochedikwu as the Flying Eagles beat U20 AFCON hosts Egypt 2-1 in test game before the big kick-off.
He will now have to battle Croatia-based Israel Ayuma for a Starting XI place at Egypt 2025.
In the Golden Eaglets four years ago, coach Nduka Ugbade spoke highly of his vision and passing skills and his transfer from GreenLight Academy of Zaria to NPFL side Akwa United has remarkably enhanced his fitness and physical development.
His style is European – long and short passes as well as a lot of movement – that fits well with a Flying Eagles side, whose high tempo passing game will always excite.
“It is always a great honour to represent Nigeria,” Auwal Ibrahim told SCORENigeria
“This is also a great opportunity for me and I want to make the most of it because I have so much more to give.”
It has been a steady return to top reckoning for ‘Germany’, who now wishes to fly high with the Flying Eagles in Egypt.
