Genk sports director Dimitri De Conde has revealed that Paul Onuachu was a target for a Premier League club before the transfer window shut this summer.
“There was an English club where he was second choice, but they were able to get their first choice,” the top official disclosed.
Belgian champions Club Brugge were also linked with the Super Eagles striker, but De Conde they cannot sell to their local rivals.
“At one point, there was an informal approach by Club Brugge, but that was a ‘no go’ for us,” he said.
De Condé said he is happy that Onuachu has yet to make the big transfer and he is still with KRC Genk.
“We are certainly not sad that he is still around here,” he said.
“Other clubs will be praised if a Golden Boot winner stayed with them and we should also take responsibility he is still here.”
