Genk said they broke their transfer record with the hope that striker Rafiu Durosinmi will make an instant impact in Belgium.
Genk splashed 10.5 million euros to sign the big striker from Italian club Pisa SC.
Genk head of football Dimitri de Conde said they expect great things from the striker, who recently made his Super Eagles debut at the Unity Cup in May.
“Rafiu is a striker with qualities that align well with the way KRC Genk want to play,” he said.
“He is good in the box and also strong on the ball in combination play. A typical number 9 to whom you can pass the ball.
“We were also looking for a profile that can make an immediate impact and that fits within our ambition to compete at the top again. Rafiu meets those conditions.”
Durosinmi has netted 54 goals in 150 matches in Europe.
Fellow Nigerian strikers Pail Onuachu and Tolu Arokodare used Genk as a launch pad to the Premier League.
