The Las Vegas Light goalkeeper Philip Ejimadu loves his Fufu and he has told SCORENigeria his dream to play for Eagles is still intact after he played for the USA U20s.

The Minneapolis, Minnesota-born goalkeeper, who started his professional career in Brazil, talked about his other dreams as a goalkeeper and lots.

The full interview –

SCORENigeria: How was it playing in Brazil?

EJIMADU: It was a very good experience. That’s where I started my career professionally and learnt how to play high-level football. It was a worthwhile experience.

Describe your experience at Los Angeles FC?

It was amazing playing for LAFC. The atmosphere was very amazing for me. All the players helped me to adapt and it was high level of football. I learnt from my coaches and teammates.

What did you learn at the club?

I acquired a lot of experience and got more mature with in my game at LAFC.

You played for USA U20 national team, how was the feeling?

I was very happy getting the opportunity to play for the country that I was born. It was a great pleasure for me. I cherished the moment.

You were on the verge of playing for Nigeria U23 team in 2020 when the coach contacted you, but your club didn’t let you go because you are the back-up goalkeeper in play off, what can you say on this?

I was very happy that I got targeted by the coach of the Nigeria U23 team. He talked to me and I was hopeful of playing for my motherland. But I will keep working to have more opportunities.

Do you think if you played for the Nigeria U23 then, you will have been in Eagles now?

It might be so because many Nigerians and the Eagles coach would have see me, but that’s in the past now. I will keep doing well at my club, I am ready to play for the Super Eagles.

Who are your goalkeeper role models?

Alisson and Ter Stegen. They are simple goalkeepers who make it look easy with their techniques and positioning. I have learnt from them a lot.

What motivated you to choose goalkeeping rather than to be an outfield player?

I tried to be a centre-back and it didn’t work. So my neighbour gave me the idea of playing as a goalkeeper in the streets of Brazil and that’s how it got started.

How was the support from your parents?

They supported my choice.

What are your targets with your new club?

My priority is to get better day by day. I want to be improving and helping my team do well.

Do you fancy Eagles chance?

Yes. I am working very hard for the opportunity. I am still hopeful of playing for my country, Nigeria.

What is your favourite Nigeria food?

I used to eat a lot of fufu back in the days with my dad. It was a great meal.

How often do you visit Nigeria?

I have not been to Nigeria. I am willing to go as soon as possible.

How will you rate the MLS?

MLS is a league that’s improving every year with very good players around the world with high level football. It’s not a low league, but very high and competitive league that can stand with those in Europe.

How do you relax on your off day?

I like to stay at home, watch movies, talk to my family on the phone and watch sports.

Your word for your fans?

I want to appreciate all the support from you guys and I will make sure that this is going to be a good year for all of us.
