The Flying Eagles will now have to get past “a deadly red machine” in South Korea to reach the semifinal of this year’s U20 World Cup in Argentina.
Korea will not be pushovers for Nigeria after the manner they dismantled Ecuador 3-2 Thursday night to set up a quarterfinal clash with the Flying Eagles.
Korea were “a deadly red machine” as they got off to a flying start with goals in the 11th minute by Young-Jun Lee, who was match winner against France in the group rounds, and Jun-Ho Bae after 19 minutes.
Ecuador pulled a goal back, before Korea defender Seok-Huun Cho headed home what proved the winner after a late consolation goal by the South Americans.
The Koreans are fast, fit, well organised in defence and take their chances upfront.
They were Runners-up in Group F with five points after they shocked France 2-1, drew 2-2 with Honduras before they were held to a scoreless draw by Gambia.
Kick-off time between the Flying Eagles and Korea is 6.30 pm Sunday at Santiago del Estero.
