Finidi George will not be the next Super Eagles coach if it were left to major stakeholders of Nigeria football like state FA chairmen, who form the majority of the NFF congress, the highest decision-making body for the national sport.
Several FA Chairmen were far from impressed with Finidi after he won one and lost another friendly in temporary charge of the Super Eagles.
Under Finidi, the Eagles outscored Ghana 2-1 only to lose 2-0 to Mali in a second friendly Tuesday night all in Marrakesh, Morocco.
The Enyimba coach was hailed after the win over arch-rivals Ghana only to be bashed after Mali beat Nigeria for the first time in 10 years.
The former Ajax winger led Enyimba to a record ninth NPFL championship last season.
He was an assistant to Jose Peseiro as Nigeria went all the way to the final of the recent AFCON against most expectations.
Majority of the stakeholders will subsequently support the appointment of a foreign coach for the Super Eagles.
The NFF are expected to soon announce a new Super Eagles coach, who will lead the country’s team to two crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers at home against South Africa and away in Benin all in June.
Nigeria are third in their qualifying group with two points after draws with Lesotho and Zimbabwe in November.
Rwanda are surprise group leaders on four points, while South Africa are second with three points.

Let NFF, put politics aside and appoint for us a Coach that can lead our team. George Finidi accepted that bright osayi’s poor back pass cost nigeria an early goal. But that was his instruction to the players because that was how they played against Ghana. He told them to hold the ball. Amuneke didn’t cause Eguavon’s failure, it simply means Eguavon didn’t know what to do to succeed as a head coach. So stop the blame, if he is good as many people are saying give him the job. Don’t use another man’s failure to hunt down his prospects of becoming the super eagles head coach.
Secondly, from we saw Finidi George did with the friendly games honestly I don’t think he did enough. South Africa I saw against Algeria will beat him silly. Think well , NFF appointed jose peseiro , who went to Afcon and was playing defensive football, made our vibrant victor osimhen look ordinary and yet you wanted to retain and call yourselves football administrators. It doesn’t quite show good use of knowledge or experience in the business you claim to know.
