Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets are the most successful team at this level having won the tournament a record five times – 1985, 1993, 2007, 2013 and 2015.
Ghana have won it twice, but both West African countries are conspicuously missing at this year’s competition in Indonesia.
Nigeria also hosted the U17 World Cup in 2009, when they were beaten in the championship game by Switzerland in Abuja.
Nwankwo Kanu, Macauley Chrisantus, Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, Taiwo Awoniyi and Kelechi Iheanacho are among the players who shone at the U17 World Cup.
