World football governing body FIFA have announced that former Nigeria coach Samson Siasia has been banned for a life and fined for bribery.
In a statement issued by FIFA Friday, the sanctions against Siasia were as a result of an extensive investigation into matches that Wilson Raj Perumal attempted to manipulate for betting purposes.
The world football ruling body said Siasia breached Article 11 (Bribery) of the 2009 edition of the FIFA code of ethics.
He has therefore been banned for life from all football-related activities at both national and international levels.
He will also pay a fine of 50,000 Swiss Franc (over 18 million Naira).
FIFA further stated that they carried out the investigation through their departments and in co-operation with relevant stakeholders and authorities.
Siasia, 52, was first Nigeria coach from November 2010 to October 2011, when he was fired after he failed to qualify the country to the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.
He was reappointed the country’s coach February 2016 for a crucial 2017 Africa Cup qualifying playoff against Egypt, which Nigeria lost 2-1 on aggregate.
The former FC Nantes striker has also variously headed Nigeria’s Olympic and youth teams, winning silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and bronze at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
