Cyriel Dessers has come under heavy fire from fans after he missed many chances against lowly RKC Waalwijk, but the Feyenoord coach has come out in his defence.
Feyenoord were surprising held to a 2-2 draw by Waalwijk Saturday, but Feyenoord coach Arne Slot argued Dessers should not be blamed.
“Of course there are always a number of boys who stand out more: boys who made mistakes in front of goal, boys who missed opportunities. Both are of course part of football. You can’t finish every chance,” the coach said.
It was the Super Eagles first start for Feyenoord.
The 26-year-old striker is on loan from Belgian club Genk and he has so far scored twice in five league appearances.
