Fears over the availability of Flying Eagles skipper Daniel Bameyi ahead of the U20 World Cup, which kicks off this week in Argentina, have been dismissed by team officials.
Bameyi did not start Friday’s friendly against Argentine team Club Almirante Brown to fuel speculations over his availability.
However, Flying Eagles spokesman Sharif Abdallah told SCORENigeria there is no cause for alarm over the team captain as he was later involved in the friendly.
“Yes, he did not start the match, but he was later introduced as a substitute,” the spokesman clarified.
Bameyi is a central defender by trade, but he may well be played at right back in place of Augustine Njoku at this World Cup to allow for the central defence partnership of Benjamin Frederick and Abel Ogwuche from the U20 AFCON to flourish.
He has been capped by the Nigeria U23s and was called up to the Super Eagles for AFCON qualifiers against Guinea Bissau after the U20 AFCON.
