French Ligue 1 club FC Lorient have said they are delighted to have signed Innocent Bonke on a free transfer.
Bonke, 25, has signed a contract for three and a half years after he ran out his contract at Swedish champions Malmo.
Christophe Le Roux, Lorient Sporting Director, praised the qualities of defensive midfielder Bonke.
“We are happy to see Bonke join us,” he said.
“He is a player that we have been following for some time now.
“He has a great work rate in midfield and will improve our squad in this respect.
“He will be compliment our other midfielders. He is a player who defends while advancing and very dynamic in recovering the ball.
“His experience at a very high level, in particular through his participation in more than 10 European matches, will be a real asset to our group”.
Lorient coach Christophe Pelissier said he can count on Bonke’s defensive attributes and maturity.
“Bonke will bring us a certain defensive balance, especially in midfield, with his athletic abilities.
“He can play either as a standing midfielder with three, or in a midfield with two defensive midfielders. He is a very experienced player, who has good technique even under pressure.
“His maturity, both mentally and technically, will be an asset to our squad.”
