SCORENigeria has now learnt exclusively the main reason Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface wishes to turn his back on the Super Eagles.
On Friday soon after the Super Eagles drew 1-1 with Russia in Moscow, Victor Boniface posted on social media he was retiring from the national team.
He will later delete the post.
SCORENigeria has since gathered that the 24-year-old striker is very unhappy that he is cursed by major injuries in the Super Eagles.
“He said he is troubled that more often than not he suffers serious injuries when he comes to play for the Super Eagles,” a source close to the player told SCORENigeria
It would be recalled that he missed out on the delayed 2023 AFCON when he suffered a major abductor injury on the eve of the tournament in Cote d’Ivoire.
He needed surgery and was sidelined for several months.
He also suffered the same fate during a 2025 AFCON qualifier against Rwanda in Uyo in November and was out for several months as well.
Wow. So what could’ve led to the several injuries? I think he has other issues which he may not want to disclose.
I would think, apart from the injuries, he has found it difficult to score goals while playing for the national team surprisingly.
