SCORENigeria can exclusively report that Super Eagles assistant coaches Finidi George and Usman Abdallah have both been ruled out of replacing Jose Peseiro for next month’s final 2023 AFCON qualifier against Sao Tome & Principe in Uyo.
A top source told SCORENigeria that CAF no longer recognise the European coaching badges of the two coaches.
“Did you not see that Finidi was not on the touchline when Enyimba took on Al Ahli Benghazi in a CAF Champions League tie?,” the source explained.
“It was because he does not have a minimum of CAF B coaching license.
“His young assistant, ‘Yema’ (Yemi Olanrewaju), was also not there because he only has a CAF C license.”
This rule will apply to the AFCON qualifiers and as a result likely coaches to stand-in for the Sao Tome game will now be narrowed to Salisu Yusuf and Augustine Eguavoen, who both have CAF A badges.
SCORENigeria also learnt that Peseiro did not pick the players for this forthcoming match to further question the future of the Portuguese coach.
An NFF Executive Committee virtual meeting Friday morning opted not to extend the contract of Peseiro.
That was the only item on the agenda of the meeting.
It was gathered that the NFF technical committee, which will be inaugurated in Abuja Tuesday, will immediately deliberate on the future of Peseiro “so as to fulfill all righteousness“ as it regards plans to replace him.
