SCORENigeria can exclusively report that going by the latest antics of Stanley Nwabali, coach Eric Chelle has stepped up his pursuit of a more reliable goalkeeper for the Super Eagles.
Nwabali has lately struggled to control his temper on the pitch in crucial moments.
He had heated face-offs with captain on the day Wilfred Ndidi and also defender Calvin Bassey in the final 2026 World Cup qualifier against Benin in Uyo.
A source told SCORENigeria: “Eric (Chelle) is certainly looking for a replacement for Nwabali.
“Many have suggested Maduka Okoye, but he doesn’t think he is good enough.
“He was really banking on the boy in Germany (Noah Atubolu of Freiburg) only for the German national team to call him up recently.”
“Certainly, there is something not right with Nwabali, seems little success has got into his head and the only way to deal with this situation is to get a very worthy competition for him.”
Nwabali established himself as Super Eagles No 1 ahead of the fumbling Francis Uzoho at the delayed 2023 AFCON last year as Nigeria went all the way to the championship game against most expectations.
