SCORENigeria can specially report that some influential NFF executives pushed for the inclusion of former Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa on the final squad for the 2025 AFCON.
It was reliably learnt that the NFF top shots argued that the leadership and experience of Ahmed Musa, who made a record 111 appearances for the Super Eagles, was much needed at the AFCON in Morocco.
They further said a big squad of 28 players could easily accommodate the Kano Pillars star.
Close watchers of the Super Eagles also said that Ahmed Musa would have dissuaded the team from embarking on any pay strike as he has severally done when he was part of the team.
Ahmed Musa was named on the final squad for the delayed 2023 AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire even though he did not play a minute in the competition.
However, coach Eric Chelle shot down the plot to include the experienced forward on his final squad.
He insisted he would rather include young players on his squad than work with a player, who only recently announced his retirement from international football.
He therefore named the likes of Jerome Akor, Ryan Alebiosu, Tochukwu Nnadi, Salim Fago and Ebenezer Akinsanmiro for the AFCON.
