Former Nigeria U23 forward Abdulrahman Taiwo has quit Danish club Sonderjyske to join Riga FC of Latvia.
Last season, striker Abdulrahman Taiwo was sent on loan to Slovak club Spartak Trnava, where he scored 19 goals and made three assists in 27 appearances.
Before the loan, the Nigerian had run into problems at the Danish club, who believed that he had acted dishonestly. Therefore, he was demoted to the U-19 team.
It was a decision that displeased the striker’s agent.
“I believe that the club’s problems are not only due to Taiwo and that the club is trying to use him as a scapegoat,” the agent Papa Agyemang told Tipsbladet.
“What Esben Hansen (sports director) has said is unfounded. It is unnecessary because there is no basis for it.”
The loan spell at Spartak Trnava is now over, but Taiwo is not going back to Sønderjyske.
He moves to top Latvian club Riga FC, who get him free from the contract in Sønderjyske, which was due to expire in 2025.
His agent confirmed Taiwo has signed a three-year contract with the Latvian club.
Neither Sønderjyske nor Riga have confirmed the deal.
Taiwo managed to play 22 games for Sønderjyske.
