Samuel Chukwueze provided an assist for the opening goal as Villarreal recorded a 2-1 home win over Arsenal in a UEFA Europa League semifinal first leg clash tonight.
Chukwueze started for La Liga and gave the pass in the fifth minute for the game opener against the team he came close to joining five years ago.
Villarreal doubled their lead in the 29th minute, before Arsenal were reduced to 10 men when Daniel Ceballos was sent off for a second booking.
The London Gunners then pulled a goal back late in the game, before the Spanish hosts were also reduced to 10 men after their midfielder Etienne Capoue was shown a red card.
The return leg is fixed for May 6 in London.
