Enyimba said they hope to beat San Pedro of Cote d’Ivoire Sunday so as to get their CAF Confederation Cup campaign back on track after a 2-0 loss at Hassainia Agadir of Morocco on the opening day of the group phase of the competition.
The loss in Agadir has left Enyimba bottom of Group D after San Pedro and AC Paradou from Algeria shared the points in Abidjan in the other game of the section.
Enyimba coach Usman Abdalla said his team will be gunning for maximum points on Sunday as they hope to reach the knockout rounds of the Confederation Cup.
“The main goal for Sunday is to get the three points first,” he said.
“If it comes with some bonus of goals it will go a long way, but I think the three points is very important to get it so that we can set ourselves in the race.”
He further said: “The players have understood the task ahead of us.
“We’ve spoken to them about the loss (against Hassania) and we all understand the situation we are in and you can see the attitude in the training ground is positive.
“We’ve been training very hard and the response is quite interesting from the players. I’m happy with their response and their attitude in training.”
Captain Andrew Abalogu has assured Enyimba will step up their game against San Pedro so as to claim the full points at stake.
“We had a very bad game in Morocco, and everyone is still angry about it,” he said.
“We have to step up our game and we know the fans will expect something better on Sunday, so we’ll try our best.”
This season the eight-time Nigeria champions have won five of six home games at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba.
Sunday’s game will kick off by 2pm.
