Emmanuel Dennis should be fined at least 100,000 Euros after he stormed off the team bus for a UEFA Champions League tie, according to a former star of Club Brugge.
This week, Dennis caused a huge uproar when he got off the team bus heading for a Champions League clash after he was not allowed to sit where he wanted.
He was dropped for the game at Borussia Dortmund, which Club Brugge lost 3-0.
Former Club Brugge star Gert Verheyen has now said the player ought to be hit seriously in the pocket for him to come round to his senses.
“The board has to resolve this matter. The only way to check such behavior is with a heavy fine”, Verheyen told Het Nieuwsblad
.
“Not getting on the bus for an important game in the Champions League? Sorry, that is a serious mistake. A hundred thousand euros fine. If that is legal.
“The only way to punish a player is to take his money.”
Verheyen, who played over 400 games for Club Brugge between 1992 and 2006, also said he believes the Nigeria forward has not been able to cope with the disappointment of missing out on a major transfer in the summer.
“Of course it starts with his missed summer transfer. Players who cannot deal with that often misbehave “, he reasoned.
“Players like Maehle and Yaremchuk also missed a transfer but just continued their job. Dennis thinks he is Maradona because he already stumbled into the Bernabéu. That’s where it started.”
