Emmanuel Amuneke has said he was “disappointed but also realistic” after the performance of Tanzania at the 2019 AFCON in Egypt and at the same time he admitted it was an eye-opening experience for the team.
Tanzania staged a return to the AFCON this year after a 39-year absence.
They have lost their first two games in Egypt and will now need to win their last group game and hope other results go their way to reach the knockout rounds of the tournament.
“We have to learn from this tournament and build on it for the future,” Amuneke said after he saw Kenya come from behind to beat regional rivals 3-2 on Thursday.
“In every journey one must learn something out of it, it is clear that that this tournament is an eye opener for Tanzanian football.
“We learn from here and forge ahead.”
The Taifa Stars, who started the match brilliantly after Simon Msuwa opened scoring six minutes into the game, conceded a goal in the 39th minute and took the lead again just before the halftime break, but could not sustain the momentum against their East African neighbors.
