Questions are now being asked whether Gent made a huge and costly mistake by holding on to Gift Orban during the summer transfer window.
The striker’s form has dipped since he failed to make the big-money transfer in the summer amid reports of interest from clubs in the Premier League and Ligue 1.
Besides his goal in the UEFA Conference League clash against the Icelandic team Breidablik, the player has not scored since August.
Former Antwerp coach Wim De Coninck told Het Nieuwsblad that Gift Orban was focused only on himself when things were going well for him even though the coach, Hein Vanhaezebrouck, tried to change this.
“But he has lost himself a bit. You now mainly see his flaws,” said De Coninck.
It is also known that the striker has been battling a groin problem, which would have also affected his performance.
According to De Coninck, there is no other option than to exercise patience and get to work with him.
Gent hope that their Golden Boy will recover quickly. Not only for sporting reasons, but also because he has to win them the jackpot next summer.
Although his market value is currently still estimated at 20 Million Euros, interest in the player has waned.
