The new coach of KRC Genk has promised Cyriel Dessers a chance to prove himself at the top Belgian club after a tough start.
Under former coach Jess Thorup, Dessers was eventually consigned to the bench, but new coach John van den Brom has assured the striker will get another chance to show what he can do.
Fellow Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu is now Genk top choice upfront.
“Someone who has already scored nine times (Onuachu, ed.) Is of course important for the team. He also has a decisive role as a starter”, van den Brom told Het Belang van Limburg.
“But Cyriel’s time is still coming. I was very pleasantly surprised by his spirit during training. He would have come to Genk with great expectations, but is behaving very positively in the group.”
The 25-year-old striker has so far netted three goals this season.
