Cyriel Dessers has admitted he is still baffled he missed a big chance that would have seen him celebrate at least two goals on his league debut with Genk.
Dessers was presented with an easy chance to bury hosts Zulte Waregem on the opening day of the season, but somehow he failed to put it away.
“That chance that I got after I dribbled past the goalkeeper is normally an abc and always a goal, but I don’t know how it wasn’t. Heat? Fatigue? Lack of match rhythm?,” he questioned.
However, he could be consoled by the fact that he put away the penalty that won the game for Genk.
“My penalty goal gave us the three points, which of course is nice.
“It was a tough match, but it is of course fantastic that we won it.
“Winning at Zulte Waregem is not something everyone pulls off, but of course it is only the start of the season, hey.”
Dessers ended last season as a joint top scorer in the Dutch Eredivisie with 15 goals.
