Cyriel Dessers has admitted he is to blame for KRC Genk 2-1 home loss to Club Brugge today in continuation of the Belgian league.
Dessers missed a penalty early in the second half and he also fluffed some chances to give his hometown club a much-needed victory.
“We played a good second half, but I take responsibility that we did not win, with that missed penalty and the corner kick (from which Club Brugge scored the winning goal) where I could have done more,” he told Sporza.
He further maintained Genk did not deserve to Club Brugge on the strength on what they showed after the break.
“In the second half, we put more pressure and we played better football, which also brought opportunities. They may not have been great opportunities, but I don’t think we deserved to lose here today,” he insisted.
The 25-year-old striker, who cost Genk four million Euros in the off-season, was originally listed to start on the bench but Paul Onuachu later withdrew from the starting XI for Dessers to start.
