Cyriel Dessers, who is poised to make his Super Eagles debut next week, has explained why he missed a sitter that would have won the game for Genk Saturday at Waasland-Beveren.
Compatriot and fellow Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu had given visiting Genk the lead halfway through the second half.
Dessers, who cost hometown club four million Euros this summer, came off the bench and could have won the game for his team only to miss with only the goalkeeper to beat.
“When I came face-to-face with the goalkeeper, I thought that I was offside,” he told Sporza .
“As a striker you guess when the ball should come, but I noticed that I was already past the line. And then you miss a bit of sharpness.”
The match finished 1-1.
Dessers was last season’s Goal King in Holland and has so far scored two goals for Genk in this campaign.
