The impending appointment of former Sweden coach Janne Andersson as the new coach of the Super Eagles has sharply divided both the NFF board and technical committee, SCORENigeria can report
SCORENigeria has learnt that several NFF executive committee members are not in agreement of this appointment, while the NFF technical committee is still in the dark as to how the coaches they shortlisted were thrown out for the Swede.
It is understood that this appointment has now caused a cold war between NFF president Ibrahim Gusau and his bosom friend and NFF technical committee chairman Sharif Inuwa Rabiu.
Andersson, 61, came out of the blues and was not one of the foreign coaches shortlisted by the NFF technical committee after several weeks of deliberations.
“It was a unilateral decision by the NFF president and the Sports Minister,” an official informed SCORENigeria
“The decision for this appointment was not unanimous.”
A senior NFF executive has already complained that the selection of a new coach for the Super Eagles has become a “secret ritual” as board members were not carried along by the president.
The NFF board meeting on a new coach lasted barely seven minutes during which the appointment of the new coach was announced to them.
“It was pre-arranged between the president and the Sports Minister apparently,” a source disclosed.
“The decision was simply forced on them without any discussions.
“Many are unhappy and disappointed about this autocratic approach.”
Everytime when I read about getting a new coach for super eagles I see Africans ignorance..you got a good coach Peseiro who lead the team to the final..to me Nigeria was the winner because I know how difficult t s to win the final game against hosts..thereafter drama/circus began..why retain foreign coach, we can’t pay him that much..real? a nation of more than 180 million population complains to pay one person..! Nigerians remember this..if you think winning trophies with foreign coach s expensive..try hiring local coach, you look as if you don’t know what you’re doing..my advice, just forget about qualifying for WC finals t s IMPOSSIBLE direct your attention to music n other things don’t waste time n money for new foreign coach ts too late!
