Big striker Uche Ikpeazu has tendered an apology to his Nigerian father ahead of today’s 2025 AFCON clash against the Super Eagles, saying he will fight for Uganda to win and advance to the Round of 16 of the competition.
Ikpeazu salvaged a valuable point for Uganda when he came off the bench to score with a diving header against East African rivals Tanzania in their second group game.
Uganda need maximum points against the Super Eagles to reach the knockout rounds of the tournament for only the third time in their history.
Ikpeazu senior hails from Delta State in Nigeria, but his son is clear of his mission to plot the downfall of the Super Eagles today.
“We have to do the business against Nigeria, I want us to win,” he declared.
“I’m half Nigerian, that’s where my dad’s from. There will always be that emotional attachment, but I have emotional attachment to Uganda as well and I play for Uganda and hopefully we beat Nigeria.
“So dad, I’m sorry.”
St.Johnstone of Scotland striker Ikpeazu spent half of last season sidelined by injury and now his wish is for Uganda to continue their 2025 AFCON journey.
“I have had to overcome trials and tribulations and now I want Uganda to progress through to the next round of the AFCON,” he said.
