As the Coronavirus continues to ravage various parts of the world, former Super Eagles skipper Mikel Obi has said he does not wish to continue to play football in “this critical time” and that the season in Turkey should be called off.
The Turkish Super Lig has ordered that matches will now be played without spectators as one of the ways to limit the spread of the disease.
But Mikel said the league ought to be cancelled and players back home with their families.
“I do not feel comfortable and I don’t want to play football in this situation,” he said on Instagram.
“Everyone should be home with their families and loved ones in this critical time.
“Season should be cancelled as the world is facing such turbulent times.
“There is more to life than football.”
Mikel’s club Trabzonspor, who also parade compatriot Anthony Nwakaeme, are chasing the Turkish championship.
They are top of the standings with 52 points from 25 matches.
May God help us all, this corona virus sef
