World football governing body FIFA have said clubs are not compelled to release players for forthcoming international windows and players could also refuse such call-ups within the same period.
The windows are March 23-31 (men’s international calendar) and April 6-15, women’s and futsal international calendar)
A circular dated March 13 and signed by general secretary Fatma Samoura, clearly stated that both clubs and players will not be sanctioned if they refuse to honour call-ups during this stated periods as would have been the case.
FIFA also advised that all international matches fixed for these international windows be postponed and rescheduled after further consultations.
CAF have already complied with this decision and have put off all 2021 AFCON qualifiers including that of the Super Eagles and Sierra Leone.
