English Championship club Blackburn Rovers have rejected “a multi-million pound’ bid for Super Eagles new defender Ryan Alebiosu by Italian Serie A club Genoa.
The Lancashire Telegraph confirmed that Rovers do not plan to let key players like Alebiosu leave in this window as they battle to stay up in the English second-tier league.
“It’s clear that in our situation we cannot afford to give our key players away,” said Rovers boss Valerien Ismael.
“It has to be clear that no key player will (leave) in that period.”
“It’s very important for us to stay together, we need everyone. We just get the players back and you see now it’s already an issue, nothing to do with that,” he added.
“It’s a great situation to see the improvement and development of the player. The strategy was right with him and a lot of other players, but at the minute it’s more to stay together and to let key players go in.”
Ismael said he expects interest in Alebiosu to continue, but believes that any decisions over the right-back’s future should be made in the summer.
“I think the club need to think what is the most important thing now because I think that for Ryan Alebiosu, it won’t be the last offer you get for him,” he continued.
“So if it’s necessary to do that now, or maybe in the summer when you have time to replace him, Now in our situation, I don’t think it’s the right call to do.”
