Captain Ahmed Musa is now two games away from becoming a Centurion – a player who has won 100 caps for his country – to join an elite class that already has Joseph Yobo and Vincent Enyeama.
Should he make appearances against Liberia and Cape Verde on Tuesday, Ahmed Musa will hit this enviable milestone.
The former Leicester City forward made his international debut on September 5, 2010, in an AFCON qualifier against Madagascar in Calabar.
The highlights of his international career will be his braces against Argentina at the 2014 World Cup and against Iceland at the 2018 World Cup.
He was also part of the team who won the 2013 AFCON in South Africa.
The 27-year-old winger has had to return to play in the NPFL recently in a bid to revive his club career after he was released by Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr last October.
He has since transferred to Turkish club Fatih Karagumruk, scoring on his Super Lig debut.
Experts believe he could now go on to become the most capped Nigeria star as the Super Eagles will be very busy in both the 2022 World Cup qualifiers as well as next year’s AFCON in Cameroon.
This is not bad for the player who was dropped by the country’s U17 team for being “too skinny”.
